Do you remember how you found out about it?
September 11th, 2001...
I was at home with my daughter who had just turned 2. We were supposed to be going to a mothers' group activity at the park that day - but there were some potty training resistance issues going on - so we did not go. I was also in the throws of dreadful morning sickness so I'm sure that made the decision to stay home, much easier.
At home with my daughter I rarely had the t.v. on during the day and the radio was usually off, so I was oblivious to what was going on.
Then I received a telephone call from my mother - in Canada - letting me know what was happening. It was, and still is, an unbelievable event.
"Maybe we should get a book about it." My son said when I told them the importance of today. I ordered some from the library.
Approximately a week after 9/11 I was sworn in as a US citizen.
So - where were you when it happened or how did you find out about it?

I was at the office working for a couple of hours before leaving for St. Charles in order to preach an 11 a.m. funeral at Paul Funeral Home. After performing the service, I spent a couple of hours at home watching the events on TV before leaving for school to teach a college class in Moscow Mills.
I was very pregnant with my youngest, sitting at the computer reading my George MacDonald e-list. Someone on the list said what happened, then a whole conversation occurred because of it as everyone with tv tried to tell those of us without what was going on. I spent the rest of the day avoiding the tv and trying to keep my babies from seeing it on tv (they watched PBS at the time.) Funn7y, I don';t remember talking to any family members about it other than my husband, just kept avoiding it, sure that it was just a mistake. My husband however watched the news online and kept up--I was too pregnant and emotional to even deal at all. Then the other plane came down in the soccer field my brother had played on not far from here and it really hit home.
I was sitting in a hotel room in St. Louis, MO, getting read to leave for the day to make a few field inspections. I was watching the Today Show when the 1st tower get hit and called my husband. Then, while we were talking, I saw the 2nd tower get hit. He tried to tell me it was just a replay because he was driving and couldn't see it.
I remember that every single inspection I made that day had to be redone because I was so out of focus. My aunt and uncle both worked at the Pentagon and we weren't sure what their status was. (They were okay.)
I was in 9th grade and in gym class and our gym teacher told us. They told us it was a terrorist attack and we had no idea who it could have been (my classmates & I). In my next class, they let us watch the news.
