Free Brown Kraft Paper

Crystal is hosting a Frugal Friday. Here is my Frugal Friday tip.

Here is a quick, easy, and free way to get brown kraft paper for wrapping packages. Cut up a paper grocery bag (sack).

If you are like me, after grocery shopping you end up with a lot of brown paper bags…at some stores you can re-use them, but if not, you can re-cyle them into brown “kraft paper”.

Take a bag, cut it down the middle where the two pieces come together and then cut at the top sides. Turn the bag writing side in and voila!

For larger packages you may need to use more than one bag.

The paper won’t be totally flat and unwrinkled – but if it’s just going to the post office, it doesn’t really matter. You can try ironing out the creases some - just be careful you don't catch it on fire!

You can even use the free “kraft” paper to wrap a present itself. Like in the Sound of Music "brown paper packages tied up with string, these are a few of my favorite things." I know Christmas is over for 2007 – but look at these beautiful, creative gift wrappings using kraft paper (scroll down to Nov 28 date to see them on her blog). Your imagination is your limitation.

You can also cut up the bag, flip it over and there is some great paper for kids crafts – painting, coloring etc.

My mom always did this. I don't think I knew you could buy brown paper on a roll till I was out on my own! Great way to re-use!!

I do this too! I love wrapping up boxes in brown paper before I send them in the mail.
