A Girl & Her Snake - Snake Identification Needed

This morning we took a walk to the park. The girl brought along her insect/critter cage "just in case".

We were just about ready to leave the path from the park when the girl shouted "A SNAKE!"

She then tried to figure out a way to capture the critter. She was successful. She was very happy.

Zig-Zag, as he's been named, is now residing with us...temporarily...pending identification (he's much thinner and smaller than appears in the photo).

So if you think you might know what kind of snake this is - let us know.

I CANNOT believe that you would let your daughter touch and capture an unidentified snake! All snakes are evil looking...ugh!

well she didn't actually touch it...I knew that would be your reaction :) And I figured you'd say something about him being evil :)

Hey it's all in the name of education ... she missed out on seeing (and touching) the tarantula this weekend so I think she thinks this definitely makes up for it.

I hope it isn't poisonous one!

I looked up MO snakes and found one that it looks similar to... Western Fox Snake (http://mdc.mo.gov/nathis/herpetol/snake/snake1.htm). Although when I first saw it I automatically thought a Kingsnake:) She is definitely braver than me... first a tarantula and now a snake:)
